WoW Nerd Fest 11-13-2008

On Wednesday night I walked over to the mall and got in line with 500 or more people to get a computer game. The new expansion for World of Warcraft came out. So I went about an hour or so before midnight and got in line. I was suprised to see so many people there. Once it hit midnight the line went really fast. I got my game went home installed it then watched the opening movie and then went to bed.

Though Friday I went over a friend's house and we played quite a bit.

If you know the provo towne center, I was waiting in linein front of Mario's used games. The line went from Gamestop, down to sears, around the corner. It was quite a site.

Mentos

While in Texas I went with my Grand mother to Hobby Lobby and they had this fun little toy. I had see something like this on Mythbusters and YouTube but didn't know they sold it. Would be a fun little stocking stuffer.

Couped up!

Not quite done yet but I have been helping some friends build a chicken coup. It has be fun. Hopefully it warms up the next day or two so it can be finished.

Panaroom

Tyring out the panoramic feature on my camera. Turned out an interesting picture. If you click the picture you should get to see the full version.

I got a dell dude!

Well my old computer was getting close to dying. It was so old that it would be a real pain to upgrade. So I got a Dell XPS system and I am quite happy with it. It has 4gigs of memory 600 gig hard drive and a really nice video card. I am still getting used to vista but I do like it so far. So far this machine has been able to handle anything I try and run on it with flying colors.

Are Space Science Fiction Shows Dead?

I started thinking about this last night after watching a new show on the Sci-Fi channel called Sanctuary. I ended up turning it off. It was not my cup of tea. Anyway I am a big fan of the stargate universe of shows and those soon are coming to an end, which makes me sad. Seems as though there are no space scifi shows to watch anymore these days. Firefly is dead, Star Trek is dead except for movies, Battlestar Galactica will soon be ending. Sure there is a prequel but is it in space? Looks more like a drama than a scifi. The only shows I could think of that are in space somewhat is Doctor Who(but is it really?) and the new Clone wars series. Neither of this are particularly interesting to me.

It seems to me scifi has gone the way of Horror and Scare Tactics(pun intended). And to tell you the truth it really stinks. My only hope is that the new Star Trek movie does well and that something new may come from that.

Is there something I am missing? Have we lost interest in space?

Sick of Being Sick!

This last monday I woke up sick with a sinus cold. So this whole week my nose has had a mind of it's own. Today I am actually starting to feel better and my nose is letting me breath more. Tonight I am going over some friends to enjoy company and some new seasons of TV start today. Should be fun.

Mickey Dee's

Fair, Laundry and Returns.

Ok so 2 weeks ago my washer broke. So I went shoppiung and found one that I liked at Sears and it was on sale, so great right? I scheduled delivery for thursday the 11th. I bought it on the 6th. They said they had to get it down from Salt Lake. So Thursday comes and they call me and say they didn't get them from the maker. I said whaaaat? Say the least I was a little bummed and called the salesman that sold it to me. He said they got one in stock at that store which upset me even more. So I told him I was coming to get it. So I tried calling people that might have a truck to help move this washer. No Luck. I ended up renting a Handtruck from home Depot and hauled my new washer from Sears to my house on a handtruck. I wish I had pictures. It was funny rolling down the street. Luckliy Sears is only a block or two away.

Saturday I went up to Lehi and saw some friends that had been out of town for a couple of weeks. It was nice to have them back. That night we went up to the Utah State Fair. It was fun walking around looking around at things. Note to self wear shoes next time not flip flops. I got to see a bunch of animals, a freak show and had a funnel cake. Good times.

Paid Off!

Today I paid off my car. It is nice to have that paid off and now will have a little extra money.

I bought my Mercury Sable 2002. It has been a good car. I only have 64000 miles on it so I hope to make it last quite a while.

This week in Scott.

Well lets see what have I been up too? Well my washer died Thursday night. Saturday I went and did a little shopping at Sears for a new Washer. I haven't decided on what to get yet. I think this weekend I will make a final choice. That same Saturday I saw the movie Traitor. It was really good. It surprised me a few times which was cool. Some movies are predictable and this one seem to having me guessing a lot more. But anyway I found it very entertaining. If you like the Bourne movies you might like this one.

That same day I went over to my friend's house and did my laundry and watched the BYU football game. BYU won and they played ok. They have a few things to work on so hopefully they keep improving.

Sunday was busy with Church stuff. Then of course Monday was Labor Day. My roommate and I went up to the Imax and saw the Dark Knight. It was pretty cool seeing it really big. And I enjoyed it again. Then later that day I moved a new desk into my computer room. It is nice and spacious.

So there you have it my exciting weekend.

This November should be fun.

The long awaited expansion to World of Warcraft has a date? I hope they stick to this. I remember when Burning Crusade had a date it ended up getting pushed back. We shall see.

The cut back

So I have decided to cut back on fast food visits. I am trying to get in the mindset of making stuff at home or work to eat. After losing weight doing our Biggest office Loser, I have gained a bunch of it back and I blame myself. I hurt myself playing racquetball and took a break from the gym. Too long of a break. During that break I didn't monitor what I ate. I was out of control. So I so no more and back to the gym with me. I played racquetball last week with a friend. Today I am hitting the Eliptical machine. Remind me I need to charge my iPod. I will most likely let you know of my progress here on the site. Here is to having focus and not giving into temptation.

USB 3.0 on the way

Intel has announced details of USB 3.0, the next generation of the universal serial bus interface. Read whole article.

I am glad to see some advancement in USB technology. I like to use USB devices and I think it would be great to see them faster. Now I just need to upgrade my 6 year old computer.

Fun Web Series. Captain Blasto

I found this from www.myextralife.com. It is a good idea story wise and I find it entertaining. Give it a peep.

Vacation and other stuff...

Well last week I got back from a week in sunny Hot California. I got to hang out with my Parents, Sister and her Kids. It was fun. I also got to do some tech support on my parent's computers. I am jealous of their Fiber Optic Internet. It was really fast.

During one of our outings there was an Earthquake, but I was in the water and didn't feel it. I guess it wasn't a big deal but it sure got a lot of press. When I lived in California I have felt a lot of Earthquakes so I guess it doesn't fade me as much.

I took a lot of pictures and hopefully I will put some up soon or link them. Being back I had the opportunity to see some more movies. I have seen Wall-E again, X-files and Space Chimps. Wall-e is good in many ways, I think it has something for everyone. X-files felt like a TV episode nothing special. And Space Chimps was just sad Animation. It did have some funny bits, but it wasn't pretty to look at.

Work has been keeping me busy, working on revamping projects as well as new projects. The revamping is a little challenging, but I keep at it.

For my Birthday my Grandmother got me Adobe Photshop Elements 6. So I have been playing with it. A friend gave me one of those learn it in 24 hours books. So I have been reviewing that. I have used photoshop and photoshop elements but have never been able to afford them. So most of my experience is in Paintshop Pro. So I am trying to learn the Adobe products.

So that is a little update what I have been up to. Time for me to get grinding. Take Care. I will try and get more up soon.

Nerdtacular 2008

Just got back from Nerdtacular 2008. We saw The Dark Knight. It was very good. Yes it was a little dark, but I think it was good that way. Heath Ledger did a great joker. I totally recommend seeing this if your into Batman, but not sure this a good for kids.

After the movie we went over to a park and had a BBQ. The food was good and it was nice to meet people. I had a chance to talk with some people of which I listen to their podcasts. I met Blake Snow from Infendo.com, I met Brian Ibbott from Coverville.com, also got to meet Randy "Deluxe" Jordan from theinstance.net and of course I said hi once again to Scott Johnson from Extralife Radio and the Instance.

I also got to meet Bronco, Reggie, Old Man Franks, and Samantha Jane from Extralife/Instance forums. It was good times.

My Debut Album

I made this with these instructions below. I got them from a forum I read every once in a while. Give it a try and see what you Debut Album would be. If you do try it send me a copy. If you can't Photoshop it I can help you do that also.

1 - Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to Random quotations: http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

If you want to do this again, you'll hit refresh to generate new quotes, because clicking the quotes link again will just give you the same quotes over and over again.

3 - Go to flickr's "explore the last seven days" http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Put it all together, that's your debut album.

The last week.

Well what have I been up too? Well I saw a few more movies. I saw Get Smart and thought that was fun and entertaining. I wouldn't say it is the greatest movie ever but I had fun with it. I also saw Wall-E. I enjoyed it. There was not a lot of talking but everything else made up for it. The visuals were great and Wall-E was just awesome. I also saw the Newest of the Narnia films. I thought it was good, though I think the first one was a little more exciting for me. If you haven't seen it, It would be a great renter.

The fourth of July came and went. It was nice to have the Friday off. I went and saw Hancock. I liked this movie also, but I would have to say even though I liked it, it wouldn't be one that I would want to see again. Some movies I enjoy for the one time and I don't get an enjoyment out of a repeat watching. I would have to say that Ironman and Hulk are better than Hancock. Later that night I hung out with some good friends and played some Wii and lit fireworks.

Today I turn 35!

Today is my 35th birthday. Yesterday I was thinking of things I have accomplished and activities I have done in my past. I thought about stuff I did in High School like Track and Field and hanging out with friends. I thought about when I turned 19, That was a packed weekend. Friday the day before my birthday I had my Eagle Scout court of Honor. I received my Eagle Scout there at the last minute. I don't know why I waited till the end to get it but my mother encouraged me to finish so I did. And I feel that was a good accomplishment. The next day was my birthday and the following day was my mission farewell. Tuesday I came to Utah for the first time. At the time my uncle lived here. They picked me up and I stayed the night with them and then the next day they took me to Training Table and I had a yummy burger before entering the MTC. I find this amusing because 2 years ago I took my cousin to the MTC but before that I took him to the Training Table to eat before that.

One of the other things I thought about was all my time going to colleges. I say colleges because I went to 4 of them before I was done. Before my mission I took a class or two at the Community College in San Bernardino, California. After my mission I tried to go to BYU but couldn't get in. I then went to Rick's College. I really liked it there. I did have a time that I got burned out, going all year long with no breaks can do that. But after 18 months I finished their and returned home. I then attended some classes at Cal State San Bernardino. I can't remember why I decided to leave California and move to Utah, but I did and after several years I finished School with my Degree in Multimedia Communication Technology.

These are just a few things I have done in the Last 35 years. It has had its ups and downs but it was all good. I have a great family and some awesome friends. I love all you guys and gals. Here's to the next 35 years! :)

Summer movies I have seen so far.

Well I haven't seen this yet but it will be the next movie I want to see. So far this summerish time I have seen:

You Don't Mess With The Zohan. This was my least favorite Adam Sandler movie of all time. It was very crude and just not very funny. If you have seen the trailer those are the best parts. I suggest you save your money and not see this one. This movie has tainted me from seeing anymore Adam Sandler movies in the theatre.

What Happens In Vegas. I liked this movie. It isn't the best movie ever but it was entertaining and funny. Some of the humor was a little over the top but still I found it fun. This one would be a good movie to rent.

Iron Man This movie was very good. It had a great story. It had great acting. As this is Marvel's first movie with full control they did a great job. Robert Downey Jr. did a good job as Tony Stark. I recommend this as a see in theatre. I will be buying this when it comes out on DVD.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. Ok I went into this movie having seen the other 3 and loving them, with great hope for another great one. But it left me disappointed. If you haven't seen it yet I won't try and spoil anything but my major issue with it is that it went from adventure movie to Sci-Fi movie. I like a lot of parts but then a few parts were pretty corny. I would wait to rent or see when it comes on TV.

Kung Fu Panda. This is the best animated movie this year so far. I am expecting Wall-E to be really good. Anyway I am a big Jack Black fan and he did a great job as the voice of the panda. This movie tells a simple but good story. The humor fits the story well. The visuals are great probably Dreamworks best looking animation so far. This movie was fun and from what I hear kids dig it also. I was joking with my roomate but I see a sequel coming. I don't want to though out spoilers so I will leave my sequel story for another time.

The Incredible Hulk. Another hit for Marvel. This one was as good as Iron Man. Story was done well. Acting worked for me. Edward Norton did a good Bruce Banner. The CGI was good unlike the last Hulk movie, which I didn't like much. It was a fun Hulk movie. If you liked Iron Man you will probably like this Hulk.

I still want to see the new Narnia movie. I have heard good stuff about it. I liked the first so I am hopeful it is good. So for now that is all I have to say about movies.

Tired and weathered

So this week I have been a little tired. I think the weather has factored into that a little bit. Allergies and the what not. I haven't done my exercising this week and I have missed it. I am starting to feel better and I am determined to get back on the horse and get back to some good working out. I recently purchased Wii-Fit. I have enjoyed it and I am planning to try a daily work out routine with it. I am thinking I will blog about all my experiences on the wii-fit to kind of document weather it really does help and in what ways. I will post more about that. I am going to start a daily routine with it on Saturday. I am planning on using wii-fit along with going to the gym so a combined workout of an hour 30 minutes on each. So we shall see how that goes.

Piano Recital

I went to my friend's daughter's piano recital last week. She played 4 songs I think. The recital went very fast but she did a really good job and it was fun to see her do this. A couple of days later I helped them start a garden box in their backyard. It looks nice and they are hopeful that things will grow.

We played alot of Wii and DS. We even go outside a little when it wasn't raining. I took the kids to McDonalds for the Happy Meals and playland and they had fun with that.

My last visit to IKEA I saw this Hummer in a Handicap parking space. I just I found it funny that a Hummer would be in a Handicap spot. But I guess it is possible. It just seemed out of place to me.

Golf

So I am trying to learn to golf. I am not very good but I am having fun, most of the time. Some of my bad hits are frustrating but then I just try and remind myself to relax and have fun. I got my own clubs from a Shopko clearance. Normally they were $120 but I got them for $40. So far they have been great clubs. I have now played more golf the past 2 mouths then I have in my whole life. It has been nice to get out side and get a little exercise walking around. I think I will be playing again tomorrow and maybe take some more photos. These two were from a place in South Jordan called Mulligans. Lately I have been golfing at Eastbay, "The Reserve"

Rockin' UVU

So Last night I got to go to a concert at UVU. The Bravery, Story of the Year, The Brobecks, Ludo, and Josephine Connection played. It was quite a show. It seemed to get progressively louder. Not sure if was the bands or my ears. Anyway the first band that played while we were coming in was Josephine Connection, they were ok. I could understand or hear any thing they sang. Next up was Ludo. I thought these guys were good. I had never heard of them before so it was nice to hear something new and like it.

After those two bands the main show started off with the Brobecks. They are a Utah local band and they have a good sound. I only cared for one song. Supposedly they are working on getting their CD and hopefully going to get signed. Story of the Year followed them. Wow, these guys have a lot of energy. They were all over the place. It was cool to see wireless equipment to let them move around the stage so much. At one point two of the guitar players did a flip off the drum stage which was entertaining. I really dug two of there songs. A new one called Wake Up which will be on their new CD coming out in two weeks.

In between each band they had to setup for the next band so there was a little downtime. But x96 was there and they had some prize give aways. Someone won a car from Ken Garff. And a few other people won scholarships to help celebrate UVU.

The last and final band was The Bravery. I was fairly familiar with this band has I have heard most of there songs from the first album and a few from their newer album. My favorites of theirs was Believe, Honest Mistake, and Just want Love. Overall it was an entertaining show and it was free which made it even better.

You've been Rick Rolled - Muppet Style

Q: What is Rick Roll, Rick Rolling, Rick Rolled?

A: (courtesy of Yahoo! Answers)

An internet prank or joke. Rick Roll, Rick Roll'd or Rick Rolling is an internet spam trick in which people post a link to a Rick Astley video on Youtube, but say the viewers of the video are being led to another video, usually proof of unconfirmed gaming news or trailers.

Vegas Trip Part 3 - The Last Part

My father, my buddy Jym, and I went to the Bodies Exhibit at the Tropicana. For those that haven't heard of it here is a little quote from their site.
"These Exhibitions--which feature actual human specimens--allow people of all ages access to sights and knowledge normally reserved only for medical professionals. Take the opportunity to peer inside yourself, to better understand how your elaborate and fascinating body works, and how you can become a more informed participant in your own health care." - www.bodiestheexhibition.com

It was very interesting and I learned a lot. Almost a sensory overload.

We had dinner in the Rain Forest Cafe and saw the Lion Den. We were a little wore out from a lot of walking and stuff, but it was good food.

After dinner we went and saw "Ka", oh my goodness what a fantastic show. This show was very good from performances to costumes and the stage was a character in it self. The stage had moving platforms and they moved in all kinds of different angles letting the performers do all kinds of crazy things. This show was well worth the ticket price.

Vegas Trip Part 2

Saturday morning we went to the Mirage and had some brunch. They had many foods to choose from and they were all tastey. I started off with some breakfast. I had an omelet, pancakes, and pizza. Then moved into lunch with some crab legs, chinese, and prime rib.

We then did some walking. I mean a lot of walking along the strip. One stop we made was to the Coke store. Their we saw all the many coke products as well as try Coke drinks from all the world. Some of those were good and some were not so yummy. I loved the coke icee.

Another stop we made was to the M & M store. Four floors of M & M stuff. We saw a little 3D movie. It was ok. Kids might find it more entertaining. It looked like they tried to be a startours kind of thing.

Vegas Trip Part 1

So this last weekend I went down to Las Vegas with some friends and met my parents down there as well. We stayed in old downtown Vegas. In a hotel called the Plaza. I don't recommend it at all. Unless you are looking for cheap and don't care about your room or service much. To say the least this hotel has been marked off my list. The first night we went and checked out Fremont Street. It has a lot of old time casinos and what not. There were a lot of performers and vendors.

One of the performing acts that I thought was kind of cool was the Thunder dome. It was a dome where guys rode motorcycles around in. It was cool to see them go spinning around in the dome, but the most impressive part was when all 3 of them rode in the dome at the same time. I thought to my self I bet that took a lot of practice and a mistake would hurt.

Along the whole Fremont street the was an LED roof. The was millions of LEDs. They had a show on it every once in a while. That was quite impressive.

A new summer game.

So I usually don't get too excited over video games, but this one has me somewhat excited for this summer. http://www.battlefield-heroes.com/ One of of the things I really like about this game is the style and design. I love the cartoon look. I know I am a big dorky kid but I love it. The next thing that interest me about this game is that it is free. They are using a advert model where the ads our on their website and not actually in the game. Then I guess they will also have things to buy for your character but not give you a weapon advantage. I like this quote: "The game has a "cartoon-feel" and has been made simpler to play, with more emphasis on participation and fun than skill and strategy. " I am a big fan of fun. One way they will do this is only pair you up against people with the same ranking so you have more fun and aren't always getting slaughtered. So come this summer everyone can give this a try.

Happy Monday!

Well this is just another sketch I turned into a vector image in flash. It has nothing to do with Monday. Today starts a new week. Hopefully it will be a good one. I hope to get some good exercise in this week. I only lost 1 pound last week and I would like to lose more than that this week. I was sick the previous week but luckily it didn't hurt me to much. Not sure what else I got going this week. My buddy Jared has a birthday this week so we will probably go to lunch for that. I hope you all have a great Monday.

Spiderwick

Yesterday I felt a lot better so I went out and watched Spiderwick. I had heard of the books but never did get a chance to read them. But I have to say I enjoyed the movie a lot. I will be sure to add this one to my collection. My only concern is that is is a children's book and it has these scary goblins and orcs. So for some kids I think it might be a little scary. The story was good and the visuals where excellent. I totally recommend this one, but just be warned it might be scarey for the young ones.

Happy Birthday Presidents!

What are you doing on your day off? I have been sick all weekend. Though I may escape my room tomorrow and do something. I guess I will wait and see how I feel in the morning. I hope you are having a great 3-day weekend.
